PITTSBURG — Colgan’s Max Wilson and Shawn Seematter officially accepted their invitation to play in the Shrine Bowl on Thursday.
Wilson and Seematter earned their spots on the all-star roster on the heels of a 10-3 season in which the Panthers finished as runner-up in the state tournament.
“Wearing the Colgan colors is a huge honor,” Wilson said. “I’m always going to play to the best of my ability for the honor of the school. Getting the opportunity to play in the Shrine Bowl means the world to me.”
In his final campaign with the Panthers, Wilson rushed for 1,088 yards and 11 touchdowns on 133 carries.
Defensively, Wilson tallied 93 tackles and three interceptions.
“Coach Seematter and I were really excited when we found out that we were selected to participate in the Shrine Bowl,” Wilson said. “We’re just super excited and now we’re counting down the days until the game.”
Under the direction of first-year head coach Seematter, the Panthers finished with a 10-3 record and played their way all the way to the state championship game.
“It’s a huge honor,” Seematter said. “I wanted to play in the Shrine Bowl when I was in high school and that never happened, so to get a chance to coach is a huge honor. I’m very thrilled to do it with Max and in our hometown. It’s a huge honor for us and it speaks volumes to the team and the success we had this past season.”
Wilson and Seematter will be representing the Panthers in the Shrine Bowl on July 28 inside Carnie Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University.
