“It’s unbelievable from where the guys have come from this year,” said first-year Cary head coach Anthony Dunbar. “We have at least seven guys who are first-year starters on the team. How much they’ve turned it on and gotten better every week is unbelievable to see.”
The Imps took down Middle Creek with ease, 48-19, and Purnell Swett cruised past New Bern, 46-27, in the third round to set up the east regional final tilt.

Thursday marked the first east regional final appearance for the Rams.
With the victory, Cary moves its all-time state playoff record to 83-15 since 1990. The undefeated Imps have won 12 dual-team state championships and will make their first appearance since 2010.
"This is probably the best team — and by that I mean team togetherness — we've had in a long time," Dunbar said. "We have studs, and they all fight throughout the lineup."
The Imps will face West Forsyth in the NCHSAA 4A dual-team championship Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.
