GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ida 62, Dundee 19
IDA — Ida’s girls basketball team secured at least a share of the Lenawee County Athletic Association title Thursday night with a 62-19 victory over Dundee.
The Blue Streaks have not won a league title since 2013.
“The girls have worked very hard,” Ida coach Tim Leonard said. “We still have a couple weeks in the season to go, so it’s nice to lock up at least a share of the championship.”
Taylor Wegener led the Blue Streaks (13-1) with 21 points. Ida is 11-0 in the LCAA.
Ida won the junior varsity contest 38-36 led by 15 points from Jillian Gelso and 12 from Paige Stein. Ashley Buhl and Harley Hughson scored 12 apiece for Dundee.
New Boston Huron 47, Jefferson 16
Sophia DiMilia scored 16 points as New Boston Huron routed Jefferson 47-16 Thursday.
The Chiefs (12-2) held the Bears to just one point in the second quarter and led 17-4 at halftime.
Addie Hudson scored 8 points and Sarah Vanisacker had 7 for the Bears.
SMCC 47, Flat Rock 25
St. Mary Catholic Central switched defenses in the second half to shut down Flat Rock and win 47-25 Thursday night.
The Kestrels remained undefeated in the Huron League.
The Kestrels led 16-7 after one quarter and roared out of the locker room at halftime to dominate the third period 20-7.
“They switched up defense on us and held us to just nine points in the second half,” Flat Rock coach Marc Villemure said. “I was very impressed.”
SMCC’s Juliana Paoletti led all scorers with 15 points.
Holly Hunt paced Flat Rock (5-11) with 8.
SMCC took the JV game 54-41 as Sara Reicker scored 13, Grace Antonelli 12 and Isabelle Alston 11.
Erie Mason 47, Hudson 33
ERIE — Mary Liedel scored 21 points with 12 rebounds and 5 assists to lead Erie Mason to a 47-33 victory over Hudson Thursday night.
The Eagles held Hudson to just seven points in the first half and led 15-7 at halftime.
“It was close for a while,” Mason coach Josh Sweigert said. “We played great defense the first half. Our defensive effort again carried us until the offense got going in the second half.”
Madison McCoy added 14 points for Mason (11-4).
Mason won the JV game 39-13 led by 8 points from Ellie Trainor.
Airport 64, Milan 16
MILAN – Airport zipped out to a 48-8 halftime lead and breezed to a 64-16 victory over Milan Thursday night.
“We lost our composure a little bit,” Milan coach Brad Baden said. “Once they got us playing faster than we were comfortable playing, we struggled.”
Emily Swiercz led Airport with 16 points, and freshman Sydney Aunins scored 6 for Milan.
Airport also took the JV game 46-35.
Woodhaven 83, Gibraltar Carlson 42
WOODHAVEN — Gibraltar Carlson struggled Thursday night as Woodhaven topped the Marauders 83-42.
Four girls scored in double figures for Woodhaven, which led 47-27 by halftime.
Rebecca Zilka led Carlson with 10 points, while Jenna Lazarski and Bailey Mruzik scored 8 apiece.
“We rebounded awful, we turned it over a ton, missed a ton of easy shots, and one top of that, didn’t guard very well,” Carlson coach Max Bailey said. “We’ve been playing so well. Just 13 days ago we played them to a four-point game. I don’t think this is the result anyone, including their team, expected.”
The Marauders dipped to 7-8.
Woodhaven also the JV game.
Britton-Deerfield 44, Summerfield 31
BRITTON — Summerfield fell into an early 15-4 hole and struggled to recover as Britton-Deerfield won 44-31 Thursday night.
The Bulldogs cuts the Patriot lead to six points at the end of the third quarter but were outscored 13-6 the rest of the way.
“We got down 12-0, came out real flat in the game,” said Summerfield coach Mickey Moody. “Britton took advantage of it.”
Emma LaRocca led Summerfield (4-10) with 10 points, Kate Keller scored 9 points, and Adrienne Siefert added 8.
Summerfield won the JV game 37-30 behind 18 points from Kaitlyn Bashaw.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Sylvania Apostolic Christian 75, State Line 49
TEMPERANCE — Sylvania Apostolic Christian outscored State Line 25-8 in the fourth quarter to run away with a 75-49 victory Thursday night.
The Patriots trailed by just single digits before Apostolic Christian pulled away in the final period.
“What it really came down to, we didn’t show up tonight,” State Line coach Nathan Nash said. “We weren’t ready mentally, and we have to figure out what the reason is. They’re a good team, but we made them look unstoppable.”
Chandler Fitzgerald led the Patriots (12-7) with 26 points.
