Galesburg man charged with sexual contact with teen girl

GALESBURG — A Galesburg man is in the Knox County jail on charges that he had sexual contact with a teenage girl last fall.

Dameon S. Dawson, 27, Century Estates, is charged with three counts of felony criminal sexual assault and three felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Those charges were filed against Dawson in an arrest warrant filed last week.

According to court documents, Dawson allegedly fondled the genitals of a 14-year-old girl on three separate occassions between Sept. 1, 2017, and Nov. 10, 2017.

Bail was set at $100,000, $10,000 needed to get out of jail, in the warrant. Few other details are not known about the case as facts of the case were presented to a judge for probable cause to be determined for the warrant to be issued.

Dawson appeared before Circuit Judge Raymond Cavanaugh during Thursday afternoon's video court call.

Cavanaugh appointed a public defender for Dawson. The Galesburg man returns to court for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Feb. 20.
