Re: “Buy back Mile High Stadium’s heritage,” Jan. 31 editorial.

I applaud Wellington Webb’s idea of resurrecting the name Mile High Stadium. The name Mile High is on the same iconic level as that of Yankee Stadium, Lambeau Field, Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.

I’m not so naive as to miss the point that pro football franchises, including the Broncos, need financial assistance to maintain and upgrade stadium facilities. However, we now have a golden opportunity to retake our beloved stadium name from the generic corporate giants. Please do not pass up this opportunity to retain a piece of our great history.

As Webb states, there are many ways for citizens to pay our fair share of maintaining the stadium, instead of allowing any corporation to take it out of our control.

Fellow citizens, this our time to say “no” to the megaliths of business and to say “yes” to Denver’s unique name: Mile High.
