A robber was sentenced to death and six others awarded life-term imprisonment by a Speedy Trial Tribunal (STT) in Dhaka for killing a student of the Academia in Lalmatia.
Judge Mamtaz Begum of STT -2, handed down the verdict in presence of all the seven accused.
The death row convict is Md Khalil, 35 and the life term convicts are Md Akhter, 35, Rustom Ali Hawladar, 50, Md Jalaluddin, 45, Md Habib, 55, Md Sabuj, 27 and Md Moti, 35.
According to the case statement, a group of robbers in a pre-planned way tried to forcefully enter the residence of Bakhtiar Mohammad Latif, owner of Sajeda filing station in city's north Jatrabari area, at late night on September 30 in 2013. While Latif's son Zahid Abdul Latif Khoka, an A-level student of Academia instantly resisted them. The robbers shot him. He was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition where the doctors declared him dead.
The victim Zahid's father Bakhtiar Mohammad Latif filed a murder case with the Jatrabari Police Station the following morning.
