A LANDLADY has put her pub’s kitchen out of bounds after city council inspectors found it breached hygiene regulations, York magistrates heard.
Victoria Waudby, prosecuting, said there were other problems including mould and other matter on the bar’s ice bucket during the visit to the Punch Bowl on Lowther Street, York, on February 10.
Although landlady Janette Garrard corrected some of the matters, the pub’s basement still didn’t meet hygiene requirements when inspectors returned on May 19.
Garrard, 60, who lives at the pub, pleaded guilty to three hygiene regulation breaches and was fined £100 with £817.58 costs and a £30 statutory surcharge.
For her, Richard Minion said she didn’t cook for customers, but provided bought-in food for darts tournaments.
Her staff had let the kitchen get into a muddle during her holiday and she had now barred them from it.
The basement improvements had been delayed by discussions between her and the pub’s owners over who was responsible for paying for them.
