DHAKA: A special tribunal has acquitted all 8 accused and 2 companies in two cases filed over the 1996 share market scam.
Judge Akbar Ali Sheikh of the tribunal, formed over quick disposing of the share market cases, came up with the verdict on Thursday (February 1).
The two cases, HMMS Financial Consultancy and Securities share scam and Securities Consultants Limited share scam- were filed by capital market regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
The acquitted are- Hemayet Uddin Ahmed, Mostaq Ahmed Sadek, Syed Mahbub Murshed, Sharif Ataur Rahman, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, MJ Azam Chowdhury, Shahidullah and Prof Mahbub Ahmed.
BSEC panel lawyer Masud Rana said decision for High Court appeal will be made after receiving the copy of the tribunal’s verdict.
