A Southfield man who killed a young Detroit couple in a drunken driving crash last year has been sentenced to 10-30 years in prison, according to a report from Fox 2 Detroit.

Robert Chaney, 37, was charged with second-degree murder in the crash that killed 21-year-old Angel Careathers and 20-year-old Zachary Garrison. Police say on April 13, Chaney was speeding down Pickford Street on Detroit’s west side when he lost control of his Camaro, going airborne before crashing into a parked car. Careathers and Garrison were inside the car, parked at Detroit’s Peterson Park.

Two other people in the parked car were seriously injured. On two counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, Chaney was sentenced to three to five years. Sentences will run consecutively.

The sentences were handed down Tuesday, Jan. 30, by Wayne County Circuit Judge Shannon Walker.
