Cops find cash box of stolen van

Pune: The Wakad police on Thursday recovered a cash box, believed to be from a stolen van that was carrying Rs 74.5 lakh.

The vehicle, that was being driven by a driver of a cash logistics firm, was hijacked on Wednesday. Ranjit Korekar, the driver, remains the prime accused in the case. The empty cash box was discovered by a villager in Shikrapur.


"Korekar took the cash, dumped the box at Shikrapur, and fled. The box was found by a villager who contacted Shikrapur cops, who then got in touch with Pune police," deputy commissioner of police (Zone III), Girish Shinde, said. The stolen van was found abandoned, at Landewadi in Bhosari.
