ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Families with children about to enter preschool can now fill out one application for three area programs.
There is now a joint preschool application for Albemarle County and Charlottesville schools as well as the Monticello Area Community Action Agency's Head Start program.
These programs are for children aged three or four who live in either Charlottesville or Albemarle County and who face economic challenges, language barriers or other difficulties.
"As our staffs have worked together to create additional spaces for preschool students, we've also worked together to streamline the application process for our families," said Ann McAndrew, Albemarle County Public Schools Bright Stars program coordinator. "This makes it easier for parents who formerly applied for more than one program."
Preschool programs are offered Monday through Friday free of charge for qualifying families, with hours and locations varying depending on the age of the child and the preschool program.
For more information, call the local elementary school or the M
ACAA offices. Forms can also be found on individual school's websites.
Completed applications can be returned to the schools or MACAA in person or by mail. For priority consideration, families are encouraged to complete and submit their forms by March 1.
