Update: Authorities identify vicitms of logging truck crash north of Duluth

A Duluth woman is dead and a child is in critical condition after a crash involving a logging truck and a car Wednesday afternoon in Gnesen Township, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 2:42 p.m. near the intersection of Arnold and Normanna roads. According to St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Natalie Ann Alvar was driving a small passenger car that crossed the centerline while traveling on Normanna Road, and collided head on with the logging truck. Alvar was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.

Four-year-old Race James Klassen was a passenger in the car and was found still belted in. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he was transported by ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth and is in critical condition.

This crash is still under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol. Assisting agencies included Hermantown Police, Gold Cross Ambulance, Gnesen Fire Department, Lakewood Fire Department, Rice Lake Fire Department, U.S. Air Guard Fire Department and St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
