FREEPORT — Freeport School District Superintendent Mike Schiffman is a candidate for the same position in the Hononegah School District in Rockton.
Schiffman and Deer Creek-Mackinaw School District Superintendent Scott Dearman are the two finalists who will interview to replace retiring Hononegah Superintendent Lynn Gibson, according to the Beloit Daily News.
Schiffman has been at the helm of the Freeport School District since 2015. He previously was the superintendent in the Dakota School District for five years.
He was principal of Pearl City Junior and Senior High School for three years and principal of Forreston Grade School for four years. He also was dean of students at Forreston High School and taught history at Aplington Middle School in Polo for eight years.
According to Hononegah's Facebook page, the candidates were scheduled to address the public and sit for a community interview. The first meeting took place Wednesday. The second will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday in room 1102 at Hononegah High School.
Gibson, who has been Hononegah's superintendent since 2012, announced her retirement earlier this month. She will work through the end of the school year.
Before she was superintendent Gibson worked for Hononegah for seven years. Before that, she worked as an administrator for 14 years in the Harlem School District.
