As part of the Republic Day celebrations, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has been organising nationwide declamation contest on the topic of “patriotism and nation building”. The third consecutive year of national level declamation contest was recently held at National Science Academy on 20 and 21 January wherein 28 state level winners participated. Out of the 28 participants, 16 were female participants and only 12 were male participants. 11 of the participants delivered their speeches in Hindi whereas 17 of  them spoke in English.

This year, 27182 youth participated at the block level and 6829 out of them contested at the district level. Finally, those who contested at the national level received awards. Shreyas G Kotian from Karnataka got the first prize of Rs 2 lakh, Witadhiu Meriam from Nagaland got the second prize of Rs 1 lakh and Akanksha Mishra from Chhattisgarh got the third prize of Rs 50,000.

The three prize winners of this year contest were further awarded directly by the  Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

On the occasion, Major Gen Dilawar Singh, DG, NYKS informed that, for the past three years, more than one lakh youngsters at different levels of declamation contest have spoken on the topic to display their spirit of patriotism, leadership and strong commitment for ‘Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat’.

Defence Minister lauded the winners and asked them to use their talent to serve the cause of nation building and fight back divisive forces throughout their life.
