Tabetha French stops to pray at a memorial outside the Adams County South Substation for Adams County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Heath Gumm on Jan. 25, 2018 in Commerce City. Gumm was shot in the chest by a suspect who fired several rounds from a handgun.

The funeral procession to honor an Adams County deputy killed in the line of duty is expected to disrupt traffic into Lafayette Friday morning.

Deputy Heath Gumm, 31, was fatally shot on Jan. 24 when he and other deputies responded to a disturbance call.

The police procession will accompany Gumm’s family to Lafayette’s Flatirons Church for the 11 a.m. service.

The procession is expected to depart from Interstate 25 and Colorado 7 between 8:15 and 8:45 a.m. and proceed west on Colorado 7 to North 119th Street. The procession will then turn south and travel to East South Boulder Road, turn west and proceed to the church.

There will be rolling closures along the route as the procession proceeds. The funeral procession is expected to be finished by 10:30 a.m.

Police ask the public to avoid the area if possible. Anyone who wants to watch the procession is asked to not park along the route and to stand on the sidewalk to watch.

The service is open to the public. People will be allowed to enter the church between 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. Anyone who attends is asked to leave large bags outside. Any bags allowed in the church must be clear or see through and no cell phones or other recording devices will be allowed.

In lieu of flowers, Gumm’s family has asked donations be made in Gumm’s name to the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation. Donations to the family may be made via The Adams County Sheriff’s Foundation. Select “In honor of Deputy Heath Gumm” from the drop-down menu.
