Several classes for children and adults are offered through The Broadway Gallery, 1418 Commerce Ave., Longview.

Art scholarships are available for students 7 to 18 years old who are interested in art classes and who are otherwise unable to afford the classes. Forms are available at the gallery or by emailing Susan at supolas@gmail.com.
Painting for Fun: 1-3 p.m. (adults) or 3:30-5 p.m. (children) Wednesdays; ages 12 through adult; students paint what they want with guidance; students may bring regular oil paints, but are asked to clean their brushes at home; instructor Susy Halverson; a canvas, up to 18-by-24 inches supplied for all students; 1-7 students per class (all skill levels welcome); $15 per day if use instructor Susy Halverson's supplies; $12 per day if use own supplies.
Creating Handmade Books: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 8, 15 and 22; ages 14 through adult. Students will need to bring a sharp pair of scissors, a ruler and a pencil; all other supplies provided. Course offered as a series of six. All participants must take the first class before taking any of the book classes in order to have papers to use in constructing the different books. Students may sign up for all or any number of the classes in addition to the first class. Feb. 8: Signatures and How to Sew Them — Create a sewn signature book with a spine. Feb. 15: Using bamboo Sticks in Book Binding — Create a single signature book with recessed bamboo sticks. Feb. 22: A Book With a Wrap-Around Cover and Closure — Create a book that can be used as a journal or a sketchbook. Four-10 students per class (If a minimum of four students are not signed up by the Tuesday before the class, the class will be cancelled.); instructor Susan Supola; $20 per class.
Valentine Paint and Sip: 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10; 21 years old and older; create a frameable, standard size canvas with acrylic paints; instructor Debra Chase will guide students as much or as little as they wish; bring own ideas and techniques or use ideas and techniques instructor brings to class; sip wines, and eat small sandwiches and chocolates; all materials supplied, including refreshments; $40 with prepayment required to ensure spot in class; email debchase52@comcast.net with questions.
Three Dimensional Drawing for Adults: 10 a.m.-noon Mondays, Feb. 12, 26, March 5 and 12 (Session 2); high school age through adults; learn tricks to make a painting three dimensions, including lights and darks, perspective, bright colors vs. duller colors and learning to use the color wheel; students encouraged to paint from actual objects and are encouraged to bring objects they would like to paint; wear clothes that can get paint on them; supplies provided by instructor Scott McRae; if can't attend a class, let instructor know 24 hours in advance; 1-6 students; $80 per each session of four classes.
Three Dimensional Magic: 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 13, 20, 27 and March 13 (Session 2); ages 7-13; create a picture that is made up of three 5-inch by 7-inch paintings or drawings. Each triptych (a series of three paintings) should tell a story featuring a beginning, middle and end. The finished product can easily be framed with frames found at Michaels, etc. Ideas for triptychs: Paint a landscape that spans over three frames or connect an object that reaches through three frames. Wear clothes that can get paint on them; all supplies included. If can't attend a class, let instructor Scott McRae know 24 hours in advance; 1-6 students per class; $60 per session ($15 per class).
Spring Fever Painting Party: 6-9 p.m. Saturday, March 3; age 21 and older, all levels of experience welcome; paint spring flowers; develop the background and select flowers to paint; learn about composition and adding depth to painting; 5-8 students; instructor Beth Bailey; fee includes all art supplies, snacks and adult beverages; $35, must be prepaid to save space in class.
Pen and Ink Drawing: 5-6:30 p.m. Mondays, March 5, 12 and 19 (Session 2); age 16 through adult; learn to use drawing skills with a new medium that is affordable; learn to develop an image and being to add more texture lines to develop detailed areas of the drawings. Session 1 covers pen and ink and Session 2 adds color using watercolor or watercolor pencil; all levels of drawing skills welcome; all supplies provided, but may bring own drawing pad; instructor Beth Bailey; 1-8 students; $45 per session (three classes).
Pastel Discovery Class: 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, March 13, 20 and 27; ages 16 to adult; lean to use pastels to create three paintings with different subjects (animals, nature and landscapes); use different techniques to add texture, smoothness and layering; no experience necessary; all supplies provided, including canvas paper and tools; aprons provided to protect clothes; instructor Beth Bailey; $50 for all three classes.
