Falcons hang on to top Bulldogs

FIELD 44, WOODRIDGE 42

A steady effort for the Field Falcons led to a narrow victory over the visiting Woodridge Bulldogs on Wednesday.

Field’s quarter-by-quarter output went 11, 14, 8 and 11.

Woodridge did not find such consistency, trailing 11-3 at the end of the first quarter before exploding for a 22-point second quarter that knotted the game 25-25 at halftime.

Field’s defense held the Dogs to five points in the third quarter to gain the advantage.

The Falcons were led in scoring by Maria Sziva, who finished with a game-high 18 points. She also was the game’s leader in rebounds with 10 for the double-double.

Katie Darling added seven points for Field, while Emma Parsons scored six.

Woodridge’s top scorer was Armani Artice with 10 points.

 

 

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 56, CRESTWOOD 46

Host Valley Christian jumped out to a 10-point, first-quarter lead and Crestwood never recovered in a PTC County Division game.

The Eagles led 17-7 after one quarter and Crestwood managed to play even the rest of the way.

Ellie Cox led the Red Devils with 15 points and Kelly Hoffman added 11 points and eight assists. Slate Bretz pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Crestwood.

 

LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN 60, ROOTSTOWN 50

The Tigers opened a 38-28 hafltime lead and the host Rovers were unable to recover in the second half as Lake Center Christian held on for a PTC County Division win.

The Tigers were sparked by Hannah Mang, who hit three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points.

Kasidy Smith had 15 points to lead Rootstown (6-10, 1-7 County), while Erica Moore pulled down 10 rebounds.

 

GREEN 51, KENT ROOSEVELT 43

It seems like bad luck has been following the Rough Riders all year and Wednesday it reared its head again as the host Bulldogs rallied in the second half to down Roosevelt 51-43 in a non-league game.

Kent Roosevelt had battled back from an early five-point deficit to tie the score at 25-25 at intermission.

The Rough Riders were unable to get over the hump in the final two quarters as Green outscored them 26-18.

Roosevelt’s downfall was at the free-throw line. The Rough Riders outscored the Bulldogs from the field, 39-36.

However, Green converted 15-of-24 charity tosses to just 4-of-6 for Roosevelt, and that proved to be the difference.

Kayla Fischer finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Rough Riders, Jazmine Moxley recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Jenna Trainer had a double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds) to pace Green, while Kelsie Glass added 13 points for the Bulldogs.

 

STREETSBORO 46, COVENTRY 41

The host Rockets turned up their game in the second half and rallied from an eight-point deficit to outlast the Comets in a PTC Metro matchup.

Coventry, behind the shooting of Taylor Norris and Maddie Ross opened the 26-18 lead at intermission.

Streetsboro (8-9, 7-3 Metro) had it best offensive quarter in the third, though, outscoring the visitors 16-9 to cut Coventry’s lead to 35-34.

The Rockets then turned up the defense in final eight minutes, holding the Comets to just six points.

Streetsboro caught and passed Coventry with a 12-6 run down the stretch.

Elizabeth Neff led the Rockets with 13 points, while Rachel Bolyard added nine tallies.

Norris and Ross finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Comets.

STREETSBORO 2,276, RAVENNA 1,999

The Streetsboro Rockets earned their first PTC victory of the season, beating Ravenna at Kent Lanes by 277 pins.

The Rockets had solid games rolled by Ma Brace (203-218) and Brennan Bregiter (213). Ravenna’s best was bowled by Noah Hathaway who tossed a 214 high game for the visitors.

 

SPRINGFIELD 2,647, ROOTSTOWN 2,451

The Springfield Spartans celebrated their Senior Night with a victory over the visiting Rovers, winning by just over 200 pins.

The Spartans’ Patrick Ambrose rolled an outstanding 489 series with a 288 high game, the best of the match, but Sringfield also saw two additional 400 series, including Frank Garretson’s 234-459 and Tanner Marmash’s 222-416.

The Rovers were led by Josh Flachbart with back-to-back games in the 240s, including a high of 243 on his way to a 483. Kaleb Dulaney added a 219 game.

RAVENNA 2,016, STREETSBORO 1,758

Ravenna bumped its record to 3-13 with a win over Streetsboro at Kent Lanes.

Ravenna’s Jordan Nutter and Tiffany Bolen each rolled a 400-plus series as Nutter led with a 418, including a high game of 216, and Volen added a 210 game with a 407 series.

The Rockets’ Mallory Martin turned in a 300 series with a game of 160.

 

SPRINGFIELD 2,015, ROOTSTOWN 1,543

The Spartans improved their PTC record to 14-3, beating the Rovers at Spins Bowl in Akron.

Carlea Masters tossed a 203 high game and finished her two game set with a 398 series.

The Rovers’ Cassidy Wilkes bowled a 168 high game.
