A former Woodruff High School coach who briefly played in the NFL has been charged with sexual battery of a minor after Spartanburg County deputies accused him of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

De’Andre Reshaud Presley, 28, of 2 Greenwood Ave. in Greenville, was charged in connection to an incident that occurred sometime last November, according to a Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant.

He turned himself in Thursday morning, said Lt. Kevin Bobo, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Presley, who was an assistant football coach at the school, played wide receiver at Appalachian State University and had brief stints with both the Carolina Panthers and the Miami Dolphins, according to NFL.com.

An incident report states that on Dec. 21, just before Christmas break, school administration received information about inappropriate contact between Presley and a student.

The report states when confronted with the information, Presley denied it but resigned “on the spot.”

Bobo said in a statement that Presley returned to the school after classes resumed and told the principal that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with a student.

Investigators interviewed the student and her mother during the investigation to determine the appropriate charge, Bobo said in the statement.

The arrest warrant states there was no aggravated force or coercion during the relationship. The girl involved in the relationship was 16 or 17, according to the warrant.

Rallie Liston, superintendent of Spartanburg School District 4, said Presley was a non-certified staff member from June until his resignation in December.

“Mr. Presley is no longer an employee in Spartanburg District Four,” Liston said in a statement. “Student safety has always been and will continue to be our top priority. The district conducts background checks on all employees and meets with new staff members to communicate the high expectations for employee conduct.”
