Fayetteville man accused in December assault on Murchison Road

A man wanted by Fayetteville police in a brutal assault that left a man on life support was arrested Wednesday.

Corey McLaughlin, 31, of the 900 block of Carver Street, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault by strangulation causing serious bodily injury.

Jeffrey Lacy, 42, was attacked Dec. 28 near the YaYa Food Mart at 3175 Murchison Road at the Pamalee Drive intersection, according to a Fayetteville police release. Lacy suffered severe head trauma, the warrant said. He was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

McLaughlin's bail was set at $500,000.
