Manchester United news LIVE updates: All the latest from Old Trafford including the future of Marouane Fellaini
Thursday February 1
19:50: Manchester United decided not to move for Lucas Moura before the player joined Tottenham.
Moura signed for Spurs in a £25million deal on deadline day.
But that was only after United passed on the chance to sign him.
Instead they landed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, while Spurs secured a deal for PSG exile Moura.
18:30: Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract with Arsenal because of Manchester United’s treatment of him, according to reports.
Arsenal have announced Ozil has signed a new contract that will tie him to the club until 2021 and see him become their highest-earner on wages of £350,000 a week.
The Germany international’s decision to stay at the Emirates has come as a surprise with many expecting him to join Manchester United as a free agent in the summer.
But the Manchester Evening News claim he has penned a contract extension with the Gunners because of what United did to him during negotiations.
They claim United were never seriously interested in bringing Ozil to Old Trafford, and greeted him with a wall of silence when Ozil wanted to know what their decision was.
18:15: Besiktas are favourites to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, according to the bookies.
The Belgian international has struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho in recent months and suffered the ultimate embarrassment against Spurs yesterday when he was subbed off just seven minutes after coming on.
Fellaini’s contract is due to expire in June, and bookmakers BetStars think Turkish club Besiktas are favourites to secure his signature at 5/2.
“Turkish side Besiktas are the 5/2 favourites to offer the hot-headed midfielder a fresh new start in the Super Lig but could face competition from their domestic rivals Galatasaray who are priced at 7/2 to become Fellaini’s next club,” said BetStars director of trading Ian Marmion.
“Big-spenders PSG are valued at 8/1 to add the United outcast to their illustrious squad, while David Moyes has expressed an interest is signing the former Everton man for a third time and West Ham are priced at 12/1 to attract him to the London Stadium.”
18:00: Alexis Sanchez has impressed his new Manchester United colleagues, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Jose Mourinho snatched the Chilean international from under the noses of the noisy neighbours Manchester City.
And despite a mediocre Premier league debut against Tottenham last night, Ferdinand says his team-mates have been impressed with Sanchez.
"They will be getting to know him, and speaking to a few of the guys on the phone this week they have been super impressed with what they have seen," Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
"His movement, his intensity, his hunger to play football and his ability - that’s what’s stood out for these guys.
"I’ve had it myself when a player comes in and you think, ‘He’s a good player' and he gets through the door...Van Persie came. Good player - always knew he was good - but when he signed you stand back and go, ‘Wow. What a player. Better than I imagined.’”
