The 50th annual Antique Show and Sale will be held Friday through Sunday at Convention Hall. The sale is sponsored by Gadsden’s chapter of Altrusa International, a service club for business and professional women.
It will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The event will feature vendors from both local and regional areas. While vintage and antique items will be the focus of the show, coordinator Sylvia Fincher said, “We are planning on hosting a vendor who can transfer old VHS tapes to DVD or whatever form you want; last year we had a lady selling beautiful fur coats.”
Vendors will be selling items from antique jewelry to furniture to glassware. If the weather permits, there will be an antique car show and a quilt exhibit as well. In previous sales, there have been vendors selling collectibles, clocks and vintage dolls. Many people come to the sale to find one last piece of a rare collection; some collect specific things like silver, baseball cards or vintage kitchen appliances.
Tickets are $5 and can be bought either at the door or from any Altrusa International club member. Proceeds from the sale will go towards funding for various community projects.
In the past, said Fincher, “Proceeds have gone towards places like the Boys & Girls Club, Etowah Youth Orchestra scholarships, diaper and bottle programs for young mothers. We even helped start a food pantry at Southside High School with the profits.”
Attendees also will receive discounts with their tickets at several Gadsden shops, including Cothran’s Bakery, the Gadsden Variety Antique Mall, Tara’s and Absolute Fitness.
There will be concessions at the show for attendees to purchase and enjoy. Along with desserts available every day, the menu will feature different items for each day of the sale: Friday is hot dogs, chili and Frito pies; Saturday, barbecue sandwiches and chips; and Sunday, smoked turkey, chips and pasta.
A few vendors have had to cancel because of the influenza outbreak in the state, so spots still are available. If you are interested in selling items as a vendor, contact Fincher at 256-393-9969.
