A benefit will be held at the Crystal City Eagles on Feb. 10 for a French Village man who has been battling a rare form of kidney cancer.

Darin Dierker, 48, of French Villiage, was diagnosed in March of 2016 with kidney cancer. His wife, Roni Dierker, said from March until the end of July that year he was doing OK, considering.

“In July he was having pain in his tailbone, so I took him back to the hospital and they found the cancer between his rectum and bladder and in his tailbone,” said Roni. “That is when they diagnosed him terminal with epithelioid angiomyolipoma, which is a rare form of cancer.”

She explained they are very rare and aggressive tumors. Roni said Darin has been through two trials. The first was working for a time and then it stopped so they put him on a second trial and that one didn’t do anything.

“The cancer has spread throughout his entire abdomen and there is nothing they can do now,” said Roni. “He can’t eat any food by mouth anymore because it can make him deathly ill.”

With Darin’s wife staying home to take care of him and having a limited income, this benefit will help the family with Darin’s medical expenses.

Tickets for the benefit are $25 each and it includes a barbecue dinner from Hog Call BBQ, beer, soda, water and live entertainment. Everyone will also be entered into a drawing for attendance prizes. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.

“We have various silent auction items so far, including a Cardinals gift card basket, stadium seats, alcohol, lottery, Paparazzi, wine, and pamper yourself baskets,” said Roni. “There is also a Valentine’s dinner basket with pasta, wine, wine glasses and movies in it. We have baseball tickets, car mats, tools and a brand new flat screen TV.”

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will served at 6 p.m. The live music performed by Higher Ground and The Jonathan Braddy Band will follow dinner at 7 p.m.

“I’m trying to encourage people to get tickets beforehand, because the caterer needs to know how many dinners in advance,” said Roni. “Tickets will also be sold at the door, but there won’t be guaranteed food if they buy at the door. Unfortunately the tickets will also be the same price at the door.”

Crystal City Eagles is located at 330 Bailey Road. Tickets can purchased by calling Roni Dierker at 573-701-3703 or by Facebook Messenger. More information can be found by visiting www.teamdierker.com.
