Anti-poll 24 hrs Nagaland bandh comes into force

Dimapur, January 31 2018: Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organizations (CCNTHCO) has reiterated its dawn to dusk Nagaland bandh on February 1 (Thursday) saying the decision to call a Nagaland bandh on February 1 was taken on January 29 in the meeting of all the apex tribal hohos and mass based organizations.

Two days ago, the CCNTHCO "declared that if the Election Commission of India (ECI) goes ahead with its January 31 Election Notification despite the January 29 Joint Declaration of political parties, a one day total State-wide bandh will come into force automatically on February 1" .

Meanwhile, the CCNTHCO said today that confusion is spreading that the bandh may not be observed uniformly.

"Nevertheless, this bandh was a unanimous decision of all concerned and therefore the bandh will go ahead as resolved," it added.

According to the CCNTHCO, the very purpose of this bandh is in pursuance of the resolutions adopted collectively by tribal hohos, mass based organizations and all political parties that Nagas prefer to have a solution first rather than election now.

"This bandh is therefore placed as a litmus test as to whether one upholds what one has promised or one backtracks.

The CCNTHCO has just the option to appeal to all concerned to prove one's worth in action," it added.

The CCNTHCO said that, should there be any section within Naga community which negates the popular opinion and refuses to co-operate with the unanimous decision, CCNTHCO has no power to rope in such section with any better modus operandi.

"What CCNTHCO questions is if one is not for political negotiations and solutions, what better option that section has in store for the Nagas?" it asked.

The bandh is from dawn to dusk.

All educational institutions will remain closed.

Exemptions to the bandh would be the army and paramilitary, police, media people, medical services, and district administration.
