This will be a windy weekend in Texoma, but do not let the wind keep you from enjoying some great activities in this area. From a movie at the Denison Library to a cattle drive in Oklahoma, birding at Hagerman in Sherman and helping to clean up Eisenhower State Park in Denison, this weekend in Texoma will be a busy one. And, for those that love boats, the 2018 Dallas Boat Show kicks off this weekend. Here are five activities to jump start the month of February.
1. Sherlock and Watson
Join the world’s greatest detective for an evening of puzzle solving. “Sherlock Holmes and the Shifty Mystic” will be playing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Denison Public Library, 300 W. Gandy St., Denison. This movie is an interactive Sherlock Holmes adventure for teens and young adults. Come dressed up in your best Victorian garb and enjoy a spooky historic tour of the library. Watch as Sherlock decodes a phony spirit medium’s tricks. Tea and refreshments will be served. Space is limited. RSVP to reserve a seat for this event. For more information, call 903-465-1717.
2. Cattle drive
Running on the heels of the 2018 Fort Worth Livestock Show, the 2018 Annual Choctaw Nation Livestock Show begins this weekend. The event will be held Saturday and Sunday at Haggard Hall at the Bryan County Fairgrounds, 1901 S. Ninth Ave., Durant, Oklahoma. There will be swine, heifer, doe, steer and lamb shows. The event will be held all day.
3. Fowl watching

Dick Malnory will give his second class on birding. “Begin to Bird Part II” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the refuge located at 6465 Refuge Road, Sherman. This event is a continuation of Begin to Bird, Part I held on Jan. 27. Advance registration is not required but is recommended. Call the refuge, 903-786-2826 for more information. 4. Cleaning the park
Texas Parks and Wildlife is having a prairie day Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at Eisenhower State Park, 50 Road 20, Denison. Come help improve habitat for the birds, bees and butterflies. This is a great service project for scout groups, students and families. Spend the full three hours volunteering and get into the park for free. All participants must sign volunteer waiver forms at headquarters to receive free entry into the park. Bring water, pants, sunscreen, bug spray and work gloves. Meet at headquarters then caravan to the work site. This event is subject to cancellation due to weather.
