The last time Salty "predicted" the Super Bowl winner, he was undone by the Seattle Seahawks' goal-line play-calling and the New England Patriots' legendary mystique three years ago. Now the Fort Worth Zoo crocodile gets another chance.

From elephants to meerkats, the zoo’s animals have been predicting Super Bowl winners since 1998.

Salty, the zoo's 16-foot-long, 1,600-pound saltwater crocodile -- said to be the largest in North America -- chose the Seahawks to win the 2015 Super Bowl, only to have his pick nullified by the Patriots' late-game heroics.

It landed him on the bench for the past two years, according to Avery Elander, a zoo spokeswoman.

"Salty's 0-1," said Elander. "But we're giving him another shot today and hopefully he can pull out a win."

The Patriots take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Does Salty like the underdog Eagles or take the approach of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," and choose the 4.5-point favorite Patriots?

Salty was to make his selection by choosing from two raw chickens suspended above his exhibit, each branded with one of the teams’ logos and colors.

But both chickens fell from the rope above and into the water.

Salty went for the closet chicken, which happened to be the Patriots'.

"He had some time to sit on the bench, so maybe he knows something we don't know," said Elander.

Regardless of which way it turns out, Salty's trainer says that the fun activity is beneficial to the croc in several ways. For one, feedings that inspire movement not only serve as a good meal but also a natural opportunity for exercise.
