RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A local filmmaking center is one of five nonprofits across Virginia getting a grant.
Dominion Energy announced the ArtStars Winners on Wednesday, honoring nonprofits that bring art and culture to life in K-12 schools.
According to a release, the five winning nonprofits are brightening communities and inspiring a new generation of students and performers across the Commonwealth.
"ArtStars allows us to acknowledge the important efforts of smaller, community-based arts organizations to inspire young people and enliven communities with art, song, dance, theater and more," said Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation.
Light House Studio in Charlottesville hosts more than 100 workshops for students in the area to develop their vision and build creative skills, helping them express themselves in positive ways.
The other grant winners are ART 180 in Richmond, the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach, the Signature Theatre of Arlington, and Virginia's Heritage Music Trail in Abingdon.
Each nonprofit is getting $10,000.
