MONCURE — Reports of stolen UTVs in the Moncure area have led the charges against two men.
On July 7, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen UTV from Dickens RV Park, located in Moncure. On Oct. 3, additional reports of stolen UTVs were received from Moncure Flatwood Road, Moncure. After a thorough investigation, deputies charged both Steven Ray Urey, 20, of 393 Pea Ridge Road, New Hill, and John Charles Smith, 19, of 1751 Moncure Flatwood Road, Moncure, with one count of felony larceny each in connection with the crimes.
Deputies were able to recover two of the UTVs for return to their rightful owners.
Urey was assigned a $10,000 unsecured bond and Smith was released under a written promise. Both are scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Feb. 26.
