Man caught with 3kg gold at UP's Mughalsarai

Varanasi: The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) caught a person with 3kg gold outside Mughalsarai railway station in Chandauli district while he was coming from Howrah by Kalka Mail on Wednesday. Recently, the GRP had also caught a man with 13 kg gold at Mughalsarai station.

According to reports, acting on a specific information the Varanasi unit of DRI personnel intercepted a man identified as Vipat Bind outside Mughalsarai railway station. The unit incharge Anand Rai said that during search three gold biscuits of foreign origin weighing approx 3 Kgs valued Rs. 91.4 lakhs was recovered from his possession.


The apprehended person is resident of Mirzapur district. According to him, the gold was smuggled via Myanmar and Bangladesh to Kolkata and destined for Delhi. The man was arrested under Customs Act.


The Mughalsarai GRP had also caught a youth with 13kg gold worth of Rs. Four crore at Mughalsarai Railway on January 30. The arrested person identified as Mahendra Vajpayee of Kanpur was later handed over to DRI and Custom personnel for further action.
