A SCHOOL is supporting a global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of staying safe online.
Whitworth Park School and Sixth Form College, in Spennymoor, will take part in Safer Internet Day 2018 next Tuesday.
This year's campaign theme is Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you and will see more than a thousand organisations get involved to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Leading up to the event, the school has held assemblies , created posters and ran a competition between house groups to create a piece of work exploring how being online makes them feel and how to stay safe online. House leaders also recorded interviews about the initiative which will be aired on Bishop FM next week.
Amanda Jackson, Personal, Social, Citizenship, Health and Economic Wellbeing and Education (PSCHEE) subject leader, said: "At Whitworth Park School we believe student’s digital wellbeing is really important to ensure students stay safe.
"Students in all year groups have a unit on E-Safety every year and it develops and consolidates what they have studied the previous year."
She said pupils have really engaged with the initiative, exploring the positive and negative impact of the internet and are a credit to the school.
