Kolkata: A man and his wife and mother were arrested on Wednesday on charge of killing his drunkard elderly father and burying the body outside their house in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district, police said.
Both women were arrested for abetment to the crime, police said.
“A middle-aged man was arrested from Dinhata for hacking his father to death on Jan.23,” a police officer said.
The accused often quarrelled with his father over his binge drinking.
“On Jan.23, the man’s father came home drunk and started shouting. He has not been seen ever since. The neighbours came to us, suspecting the old man has been murdered,” the officer said.
The accused confessed to killing his father and burying the body in front of the house.
Separately, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday seized silver ornaments worth Rs2.18 lakh in West Bengal’s Nadia district, a BSF official said.
Acting on a tip, the troopers deployed at the Vijaypur outpost ambushed a suspect near the India-Bangladesh border.
“Silver ornaments weighing 5.65 kg, including 70 pairs of silver anklets and 452 silver rings, were seized from him,” BSF Deputy Inspector General RPS Jaswal said in a statement. “The smuggler fled into banana plantations on the Indian side.”
