Fishing: Better weather helping anglers

Warm enough to fish inshore and offshore

Another week of somewhat mild temperatures allowed anglers to fish inshore or head offshore to fish. Inshore fishing is producing catches of red drum, speckled trout and black drum. Striped bass are being caught in the river near downtown Wilmington. Fishing at the nearshore reefs and ledges is producing catches of black sea bass and dog fish. Fishing in the 25-mile range has brought in grunts, black sea bass and false albacore. Frigate tuna and king mackerel are being caught near Frying Pan Tower. Gulf Stream boats are reporting catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and African pompano.
