Coosa Riverkeeper has hired Karli Riley as its new program manager.
Riley will be responsible for the implementation of the Swim Guide and Fish Guide programs, educational outreach initiatives and the in-office laboratory in Mount Laurel near Yellowleaf Creek, a tributary to Lay Lake on the Coosa River.
She received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a chemistry concentration and a minor in Business Administration from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. She worked there with the chemistry department as a lead laboratory coordinator and research assistant for the School of Natural Sciences.
Riley was Coosa Riverkeeper’s lead Swim Guide intern in 2016, managed four sampling teams, conducted an intensive study of Choccolocco Creek and conducted all the lab work for the Swim Guide program.
Following graduation, she worked as a seasonal environmental educator for the Cahaba Environmental Center in Montevallo, educating a diverse group of students about Alabama’s natural and cultural history, while continuing to volunteer with Coosa Riverkeeper.
“I am eager to engage our community to protect, restore and advocate for the Coosa River,” Riley said.
This year’s Swim Guide program will begin in May.
