Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard and Harry Redknapp all had their say as the Belgian forward failed to lead by example once again.
Instead, Harry Kane played an instrumental part as Tottenham stormed to a comfortable victory thanks to a Christian Eriksen strike and Phil Jones own goal.
The England international scored more goals than any other striker in Europe in 2017 with 56 goals.
And Harry Redknapp thinks he is a class above Lukaku, who cost Man Utd £75million in the summer.
“There is no comparison between the two, he [Kane] is on a different level to Lukaku,” Redknapp told BT Sport.
“Kane is probably the best striker in Europe at the moment - he is a fantastic player.”
Meanwhile, Ferdinand added: “I think Harry Kane showed why he is the best striker in the league and one of the most potent in Europe.
“He bullied Manchester United’s two centre-half.
“The contrast between him and Lukaku was so evident. He played like a real number nine.”
And Lampard said: “Even the fact that he didn’t score his 100th [Premier League] goal we were all waiting for it.”
