In Gov. Brownback's State of the State address, he advocated spending an additional $600 million on public schools in Kansas without raising taxes. This sounds too good to be true, but it definitely is not feasible without raising taxes. Anyway, why is paying taxes a bad thing when essential services such as road/bridge maintenance as well as school financing are definitely necessary? I am a retired professor and am proud to have served in the public sector for over 40 years and have paid taxes, heavy to say the least, but realize the necessity of funding essential services.

For a long time, the Kansas Supreme Court has threatened to shut down Kansas schools unless adequate funding is made. I recommend adequate funding is made in its complete, not in dribbles and bits.
