Prairie View 52, Glenbrook 41
MINDEN — Hayes Crockett scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half as Prairie View overcame a six-point intermission deficit to overtake Glenbrook 52-41 Tuesday night.
Down 23-17 at the break, the Spartans outscored the Apaches 35-14 in the second half, including 21-8 in the pivotal third quarter.
"After halftime, we played better defense and ran the floor a lot better," Prairie View coach David Patrick said.
Crockett found the range for 10 points in the third quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Layton Woodard added seven as the Spartans went up 38-31.
Prairie View outscored Glenbrook 14-10 in the final period behind six points from Crockett, who sank 4-of-6 free throws.
"We finished a little stronger on the road than we did the other night, which was a positive," Patrick said, referring to Friday night's 52-44 home court victory over River Oaks. "We finished better around the basket than we have the last few games. We didn't miss a lot of two-footers and putbacks."
Glenbrook took a 13-12 first quarter lead behind a trio of 3s from J.C. Brown.
Cade Clemons accounted for five second quarter points as the Apaches upped the margin to 23-17 at midpoint.
"We kind of got off to a slow start again," Patrick said. "They pretty much stayed packed in a 1-2-2 zone this game. In the last game, they pressed us and played a lot of man. They changed their gameplan up tonight and it took us a while to adjust."
Prairie View (9-7, 4-0) won the first-round meeting 62-49 on Jan. 30 in Bastrop.
Crockett was joined in double digits by Woodard with 13 points. Layton Rainbolt was next with seven, Alex Dupree added four, with two each from Alex Louizou, Tanner Caldwell and Hunter Little.
Glenbrook received scoring contributions from only four players. Brown led the way with 24 — 11 in the first period — while knocking down six of the Apaches' nine 3-pointers. Clemons had eight, Demaza Robinson seven and Joseph Kidd two.
Prairie View made 9-of-18 free throws, all in the second half. Glenbrook was just 2-of-6 from the stripe. All but two of the game's 24 free throws were shot in the second half.
Returning home Friday night, the Spartans can clinch a share of the MAIS District 5-2A title with a win over Franklin Academy. Louizou, Dupree, Caldwell, Austin Harper, Jacob Walker and Kentrell Spencer will be recognized as part of Senior Night activities.
