Jonny Evans to Arsenal: Latest update on potential Deadline Day deal for West Brom star

JONNY EVANS is set to STAY at West Brom - until the end of the season at least.

Arsenal have been linked with a swoop for the Baggies skipper this month.

Starsport understands the Gunners are keen on the player, but haven’t followed up their initial interest with an offer.

They don’t want to pay big money for the Northern Ireland defender, who they could get for just £3m in the summer if West Brom go down.

And Sky Sports report Evans is unlikely to exit the relegation-threatened Baggies today.

“He is confident that they will keep hold of captain Jonny Evans today,” reporter Kirsty Edwards said of Alan Pardew’s stance.

“West Brom are set to keep Jonny Evans”

“At one point the club were willing to listen to offers for him in this transfer window.

“They thought they may need the money to bring in a striker.

“But of course, as they’ve brought in Daniel Sturridge on loan, they no longer need that money, they want to keep hold of Evans.

“Pardew said if he was a betting man he certainly wouldn’t be putting any money on Evans leaving the club today.

“He did though say he isn’t used to having deadline days that are uneventful.

“So he will be keeping his phone very close by today; he’s really hoping it doesn’t ring.”

The transfer deadline is 11pm tonight, although West Brom will likely want any business done before their Premier League match away at Manchester City, which starts at 8pm.
