Two Danbury High teachers named national coach of the year finalists
DANBURY — Two Danbury High School teachers will be recognized as National High School Coaches Association 2018 coach of the year finalists.
Girls basketball coach Jackie DiNardo and girls golf coach Kathy Boucher are each among eight coaches in their respective sports who will be honored at the association's award presentation in South Dakota this summer.
DiNardo is the administrator of the district’s REACH and Endeavor programs, alternative programs for at-risk students, and Boucher is a social studies teacher at the high school.
In 2012, DiNardo was inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame, where she was an All-American college basketball player at the University of Texas, and the Connecticut Basketball Hall of Fame. She has more than 460 wins over 30 years coaching the Danbury High team, which is one of only three programs to win three straight Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournaments, winning the title in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Boucher founded girls golf as a club sport at the high school in 1998 and it became a varsity sport in 2003. The team then won FCIAC and state championships in 2004 and 2005. She was named FCIAC Girls Golf Coach of the Year in 2015 and received an FCIAC Coach of Excellence Award in 2016, when the team was a state runner-up.
