Corpus Christi police were called about 4 p.m. Tuesday to the 3700 block of Emory Street for an attempted kidnapping, a police news release states.
A 10-year-old girl reported that around 3:20 pm a man approached her as she was walking near the intersection of Emory and Rushing Boulevard. The man told the 10-year old that her parent had sent him to pick her up.
The girl ran for safety as the man approached her, the release states.
Police released images of the possible suspect vehicle, which was described as a blue in color SUV.
The girl described the man who tried to abduct her as being about 30 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, with short dark hair which had some gray. She also identified a circular tattoo on his arm and said he was wearing a sleeveless shirt and blue jeans.
Officers are asking residents who live near Emory and Rushing and own surveillance cameras to check their footage for any suspicious activity that could assist in the investigation.
Calallen ISD superintendent Arturo Almendarez issued a statement on the matter Wednesday.
"Due to a recent incident in the northwest area, we are actively addressing 'stranger danger' and other relevant topics to keep our students informed and aware of the dangers in today's society," the statement reads. "We ask that you also visit with your children about being aware of their surroundings and what to do if a stranger approaches them.
"Please remind them not to get into a car with someone they do not know for any reason. We also recommend that you speak to your children about traveling in pairs, especially at bus stops and walking home from school."
