Organizers are looking for individuals with flexible schedules to be on-call cookie delivery drivers. Distances are typically 1-2 hours away, and may be daytime or evening hours. The Department of Human Services is in need of caring community members to volunteer as guardians and/or conservators for wards of the state. Wards of the state are typically individuals with mental illness, disabilities, or dementia. Guardians make placement and treatment decisions and conservators handle financial matters for the ward. Power Read is a literacy and mentoring program that pairs volunteers and elementary school students to read together on a weekly basis. Everybody Wins! Iowa and United Way of Central Iowa are partnering to provide reading and mentoring experiences to children who might not have one-on-one attention from an adult. The National History Day in Iowa state contest is April 30 at the Iowa Events Center and volunteer judges are needed to help evaluate student projects and create a positive experience for Iowa's young historians.
