Houma Travel was named the Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Year by the Louisiana Travel Association.

“We are excited to be a winner of the (Convention and Visitors Bureau) of the Year from the Louisiana Travel Association,” Sondra Corbitt, executive director of the Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Houma Travel, said in a press release. “We look forward to continuing to showcase our great Louisiana culture to the rest of the world.”

The annual Louey Awards recognize individuals and organizations who contribute to Louisiana tourism.

This year, 17 awards were given to members across the state, including Houma Travel.

Other regional winners include: the Tammany Taste campaign from Louisiana’s Northshore as Tourism Campaign/Promotion of the Year; Amy and Jeffrey Hansell of Oxlot 9 and Smoke BBQ in Covington as Restaurateur of the Year; state Rep. Julie Stokes, R-Kenner, as Governmental Friend of Tourism; and Shelley Johnson with the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau receiving the Will Mangham Tourism Lifetime Achievement award.

Statewide tourism efforts generated $1 billion in 2016 and employed more than 230,000 people, according to the Louisiana Travel Association.
