Kunduli: BJP seeks OSHRC intervention

The BJP Mahila Morcha on Monday sought the intervention of the Odisha State Human Rights Commission (OSHRC) in the Kunduli gangrape victim’s suicide case.

The Mahila Morcha activists demanded Rs 1 cr compensation for family of the girl and also sought dismissal of Odisha police Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) ADG Mahendra Pratap and Koraput district Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanwar Vishal Singh for concealing and destruction of evidences in the case.

They said that they do not have faith on the Crime Branch probe ordered by the State Government into the incident.

“The family of the victim should be provided compensation and the people involved in pushing the issue below the carpet especially the Koraput SP and HRPC ADG should be dismissed immediately. Without providing justice, the State Government forced her to commit suicide therefore we have moved the OHRC on this sensitive issue,” said BJP’s State general secretary Lekhashri Samantasinghar.

However, BJD spokesperson Samir Das said the BJP is confused about its demands. If they want a CBI probe then the Union Government can hand over the case to the CBI if it wants. The same thing has been said by the Leader of Opposition on Sunday. The BJP is trying to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by raising the Kunduli incident. It is nothing but a political gimmick,” Das added.
