ST. PAUL — Lane Johnson is anything but the anonymous guy in the trenches. One glance at the Eagles’ all-pro right tackle on Monday night provided one more reminder.
Johnson made quite the fashion statement during the team’s Super Bowl LII Opening Night media session, wearing designer sunglasses with his Eagles-logo ski hat.
Sure, you might call the big fella a little crazy.
“Crazy is just a matter of opinion,” Johnson said. “I see it as establishing my swag game, and I established it very well tonight.”
The swag represents a bigger picture for Johnson, a fifth-year veteran whose development into one of the league’s best linemen has included an evolution as a free spirit.

Yes, this is the same Johnson who helped ignite a rally cry when he put on a dog mask following the divisional playoff win against Atlanta as an answer to doubters who rated his team as an underdog.
He makes no apologies for presenting himself as a loose cannon.
“I’ve been very stiff, very nervous before games,” Johnson reflected. “Afraid to make mistakes. I don’t think a lot of people play well when they’re not loose. I think you’ve got to be confident and loose, knowing who you are, but still respect your opponent, put the work in. Then you won’t have anything to worry about.”
