We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Today prayers and homage are pouring in from across the region as we observe with a heavy heart the fourth death anniversary of the late Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam (May his soul rest in peace). He was a true pioneer of the UAE media industry who contributed greatly to his country as a statesman, scholar and influential figure. His ambition, dedication and values remain a source of inspiration, which encourages us all to cherish his legacy and keep striving for excellence and progress. He was the youngest Minister for Education and Justice Minister in the Cabinet of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
 
The tragic news of his sudden demise four years back left the whole nation and the entire Gulf region in a state of shock. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, mourned the death of Dr Abdullah. Sheikh Mohammed said: “I offer condolences to our people on the death of Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam, Emirati loyal son, statesman and renowned mediaperson.
 
Today I lost a dear brother, Abu Khalid, and a loyal friend, known for good conduct, courage, clarity of opinion, intention and sense of belonging and loyalty to his homeland and leadership.” This statement by Sheikh Mohammed speaks volumes about the personality of Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam. The Gulf Today shares the views of business heavyweights and scholars who are deeply aggrieved over his untimely death.
 
They pay tributes and homage to him and always remember him in their prayers. May Allah Almighty grant him the highest place in heaven and provide courage to his family members and torch-bearers, including his sons Khalid Abdullah Taryam, Dar Al Khaleej Chairman and Editor in Chief of Al Khaleej newspaper, Omran Abdullah Taryam, Vice Chairman of Dar Al Khaleej, and daughters Ameera Taryam, Editor in Chief of Kul Al Usra, and Aysha Taryam, the first Middle Eastern female Editor in Chief of an English language newspaper, The Gulf Today, to bear his great loss and give them strength to carry forward their late father’s legacy (Ameen).


Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry: The late Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam was a patriot and role model whose great contribution to the UAE will never be forgotten. He was a true pioneer who helped develop the country’s media sector, while he was also considered to be one of the most distinguished figures in government. Dr Taryam shared the same forward-thinking vision as our wise leadership, and a strong passion for serving the nation. His ambition, dedication and values remain a source of inspiration, which encourages us all to cherish his legacy and keep striving for excellence and progress.

Satish Khanna, General Manager, Al Fajer Information and Services: Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam was a national symbol of the UAE and one of the country’s most respected sons, statesmen and journalists. He constantly promoted the virtues of reason and dialogue through his publications to uphold the truth and dedicated his life to the uplift of society. His passing away was a true loss to the nation and on the occasion of his fourth death anniversary I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family and pray that his legacy shines across generations.

Raja Mohammad Sarfraz, MD, Tanja Engineering: Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam was a very humble person and a unique personality. He played a major role in the development of the UAE and the establishment of the union together with the founding fathers of the UAE. Losing him has been a great loss for the UAE that cannot be compensated for. He thoroughly loved Pakistanis. I have personal familiarity with the Taryam family for almost three decades and I can ensure he belongs to a very pleasant and promising family. May Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace.

The late Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam was a great leader and a game-changer for many of us. His efforts to promote English and Arab media are laudable. We salute his efforts in the field of culture and media. He is still alive in our hearts. Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer,  Al Bustan Centre & Residence: My sincere gratitude towards (late) Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam, he was an unmatched statesman who played a crucial role in establishing the United Arab Emirates which will be remembered by everyone for years to come. He was not only the pioneer in the field of journalism but also had a great role to play in establishing a free training centre for Emirati mediapersons who will be the future of journalism in the UAE. He will always live in our fond memories.

Chaudhry Khalid Hussain, President, Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah:  The late Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam is a legend who cannot be forgotten and cannot be erased from the memory of everyone who dealt with him. His untimely departure is a big loss to the media sector of the Arab region. He was very loyal to his country and played a key role in the UAE carving a niche in the whole world. Four years have passed since the demise of Dr Abdullah, but his memory is still fresh in the hearts of all those who love him, because he was a man of thought and pen, policy and administration, education, journalism and media. He left his imprint on each of these fields. May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace and grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Ferdos (Ameen).

Dr Kakul Agha, Assistant Professor and Member of Teaching Effectiveness Committee, Skyline University College: The nation bears the loss of a visionary, a hard worker, a father figure, a great leader and an extremely talented person. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, mourned the death of Dr Abdullah. Sheikh Mohammed stated that he lost a dear brother, a loyal friend, known for good conduct, courage, clarity of opinion, intention and sense of belonging and loyalty to his homeland and leadership. This statement speaks volumes about the personality of Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam. Dar Al Khaleej for Press, Printing and Publishing has seen the leadership skills of Dr Abdullah. His collaborative approach has taken the company to new innovative heights and enabled the employees to enjoy their work and be empowered to accomplish their responsibilities fully. Dr Abdullah has been an extremely progressive and futuristic person and believed heavily in the development of knowledge and education. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and his loved ones. The UAE has lost a gem and is going to miss Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam.
