A total of 596 engineering works in GVMC being executed with ₹ 400 crore will be completed by the end of April, Minister for Municipal Administration P. Narayana has said.
The works related to those taken up with 13th and 14th Finance Commissions, SC/ST components and general funds, the Minister said after a review with officials at GVMC here on Monday.
Mr. Narayana said the process of online approval had made the approvals simple but if wrong data was given it would be detected in post-verification leading to demolition.
He said during the last two years 52,000 online approvals were given and a tele-caller survey showed that 95 % people were happy.
But at some places officials and even corporators were saying that even after approval they had to be contacted for taking up construction.
A Task Force with 10 officials under the Director of Town Planning was set up to verify into the 5 % deviations and to take action against it.
Elections
On elections to GVMC, he said it was not taken up owing to court cases. However, since the Prime Minister said all the elections should be conducted simultaneously a decision was being awaited. If all the elections were not taking place at one go, after court cleared the cases, election would be taken up, he said.
Mr. Narayana said all over the State 6.81 lakh houses had been sanctioned and a subsidy of ₹ 4 lakh subsidy was being given by the Central and State governments.
In Visakhapatnam of the 1.5 lakh houses required, only 58,000 were sanctioned because of lack of land.
