It was during the time of Congress and Left governments that the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant went through a bad phase and the Vajpayee Government baled it out, BJP national executive member and MLC Somu Veerraju has said.
During the United Front government it was about to be referred to the erstwhile Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction and the NDA Government led by Mr. Vajpayee released ₹1336 crore and prevented it, he said.
At the steel plant in connection with the election for recognised union on February 5, he recalled that CPI and CPI(M) were part of the United Front government.
From a surplus of ₹ 5000 crore it now slipped into losses as the expansion plan was not properly implemented and even that happened during the UPA Government, Mr. Veerraju said.
Though the Left parties were blaming NDA Government for disinvestment move, it was actually decided in 2012 during the UPA Government.
According to a reply given in the Rajya Sabha, it had been pending since 2014 too when the present Modi Government assumed charge, he said.
All along, the Congress-Left governments had failed to allot captive mines but they were now finding fault with the NDA Government, he said.
