A national-level convention for ‘Liquor-Free India’ was organised here on Monday. Representatives from 22 States, including activists from across Odisha, participated.
A resolution was passed unanimously named ‘Bhubaneswar Declaration’, putting forward several demands to the Central and State Governments to attain a goal for liquor-free India.
A national committee was formed, and the next meeting of the committee would be held in New Delhi in April.
Speakers like Milita Odisha Nisha Nibarana Abhijan(MONNA) president Padmalochan Nayak, former bureaucrat Abasara Beuria, Dr Shirin Rehram, Acharya Santosanad Ji and Mahaveer Tyagi stressed the need for a mass mobilisation against liquor across the country.
National Committee member Padmalochan Nayak said, “The Bhubaneswar Declaration was passed with a commitment to launch a national movement for a liquor-free India and to appeal to the Prime Minister for a national policy to implement total prohibition and to the Chief Ministers to implement total prohibition in their respective States.”
