The two Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh registered growth in income tax payment higher than the national average.

Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Telangana and AP S.P. Choudhury said the two States registered 30% growth in income tax.

This was against the national average of 18%. He however, expressed concern over five lakh assessees yet to file returns in the two States.

The Department had targeted ₹50,000-crore tax during the current year and realised ₹47,000 crore so far.

Mr. Choudhury was speaking at an interactive session organised by The Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Monday.

Responding to queries, he said he would welcome the grievances put forth by taxpayers so that administrative reforms could be put in place to avoid inconvenience to them.

The officials of the department had been directed to look into complaints relating to online submission of IT returns and the assessees on their part should check their returns twice before filing them to minimise scope for complaints, he added.
