The funeral of Bishop Emeritus of Kozhikode Maxwell Valentine Norohna, 93, who died at Shalom Priestly Home here on Sunday night, will be held at the Mother of God Cathedral on Tuesday.
Archbishop of Varappuzha Joseph Kalathiparambil will lead the funeral ceremonies, which will begin at 2.30 p.m.
The body will be kept for the public to pay homage at the Kozhikode Town Hall from 9.30 a.m. as well as at St. Joseph’s Church near Malabar Christian College later. Bishop Norohna had been the head of the Calicut Diocese of the Latin Catholic Church for 22 years from 1980 to 2002. He had succeeded Bishop Maria Patroni. Soosa Pakiam, the Archbishop of the Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese of the Latin Church, will deliver the funeral sermon, a priest in the Calicut Diocese said.
Maxwell Norohna, who was born to the Norohna family at Vadakara on February 14, 1924, was ordained priest in 1952. After formal religious training, he had taught at church-run schools in Wayanad and Kannur districts.
He spent his final years at Shalom Priestly Home, Vellimadukunnu, giving spiritual guidance to young priests and the faithful.
