Corbyn left STUMBLING as he's GRILLED for speaking at event celebrating murderous regime

JEREMY CORBYN faced a brutal grilling by BBC’s Andrew Marr over his reluctance to condemn the Iranian Government for its continued human rights abuses.

BBC’s Andrew Marr asked Mr Corbyn why he spoke at an event that celebrated the Iranian revolution, a regime known for its brutal executions and abuse of human rights in Iran.

Mr Corbyn stumbled over the question and said: “What?”

He continued: “I was on a delegation to Iran in the company of a number of other MPs including Jack Straw.

“I spent the whole of that time in that delegation discussing two things - the nuclear issue and human rights. I raised human rights at every conceivable opportunity during that.

I ceased to do any programmes when they treated the Green Movement the way that they did

“I think that Iran’s nuclear deal is good and welcome but the issues of human rights abuse in Iran of executions is totally wrong. Therefore, there has to be human rights demands made on the Iranian Government which I make.”

The Labour leader has previously faced criticism for his willingness to overlook human rights abuses in Iran.

Marr continued to grill the Labour leader and said he took money from Iran for press TV events.

Mr Corbyn said: “A very long time ago I did some programmes, yes, I did some programmes for press TV.

“I ceased to do any programmes when they treated the Green Movement the way that they did. And I also, at all of those occasions, made my voice very clear about human rights abuses. I want to lead a Government that puts human rights at the centre of its foreign policy."

The Iranian Green Movement, also known as the Persian Spring, refers to a political protest that surfaced following the 2009 Iranian presidential election where protesters demanded the removal of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from office.

and his party allies recently failed to condemn the crackdown of democratic protest against the Islamic Government of Iran.

Mr Corbyn has a longstanding interest in the country but failed to speak out on the issue, despite being the vice-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on , whose mission is “to foster good relations with the parliament and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

The protests, which began over economic hardships suffered by the young and working class, have sparked international outrage as they gradually evolved into a rising against the powers and privileges of a cruel and distant elite.
