ELKIN, N.C.
A 13-year-old North Carolina boy has died in a house fire.
Local media reported the fire started shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday.
C.C. Camp Volunteer Fire Chief Lanny Whitaker said four fire departments responded to the blaze near the Elkin Municipal Airport. Whitaker said it took about 45 minutes to control the fire.
Officials say the child's mother had gone outside to do some chores and returned to see the living room was on fire where the 13-year-old boy was. The mother and people passing tried to rescue the boy but were unable to do so.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
The boy's name has not been released.
The State Bureau of Investigation is trying to determine the cause of the fire.
